NFL injury report: Five most impactful injuries for Week 7 image

NFL teams released their final Week 7 injury reports Friday, and high-profile wide receivers appear to be one of the biggest problem areas.

Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to be in the lineup Sunday, while Jeremy Maclin and Keenan Allen may not be so lucky. Under center, Marcus Mariota will miss the first game of his career after suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Here are the five most impactful injuries heading into Week 7:

Marcus Mariota

The Titans rookie quarterback missed practice all week and was officially ruled out of Sunday's game Friday.

Mariota was diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his left knee Monday after taking a low hit by defensive end Olivier Vernon in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. He was able to return to the game but played on a limited basis after getting shaken up. He completed 21 of 33 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and two fumbles before he was removed late in the fourth quarter. Mariota, who has endured 19 sacks this season, has lost a league-high four of his five fumbles.

Backup Zach Mettenberger, who started six games last season, will take over under center. He entered Sunday's game for the Titans’ final possession and completed 5 of 8 passes for 63 yards.

Odell Beckham Jr.

The Giants' offense could be missing a key component if the wide receiver doesn't fully recover from his nagging hamstring injury. He didn't practice at all this week and is listed as questionable.

Beckham strained his hamstring after catching a 17-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the Giants' Week 5 win over the 49ers. He has dealt with hamstring injuries in the past, missing training camp and four games to start last season in addition to being kept out of training camp earlier this summer. He played all but two snaps in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, catching seven passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Beckham is expected to assume his usual workload for Sunday's NFC East showdown with the Cowboys. He's been taking as many "mental reps" as he can in place of practice as he prepares to play.

Brandon LaFell

New England's passing game is staggering over the first five games and will get an added boost from LaFell if he returns to action Sunday against the Jets.

LaFell returned to practice Wednesday after beginning the season on the PUP list with a foot injury and is expected to be activated on the 53-man roster. After a slow start, he finished with 74 catches for 953 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He added 13 catches for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the playoffs, including one in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks.

The Patriots are averaging 325 passing yards per game with a 71 percent completion rate so far this season. Although Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Dion Lewis will likely continue to get the majority of opportunities, LaFell is expected to get his fair share of touches when he returns to the field.

Jeremy Maclin

Kansas City could be down another playmaker if the wide receiver's concussion keeps him sidelined. He's listed as questionable on the Chiefs' final injury report.

Maclin will need to pass concussion protocol this week in order to be eligible to play Sunday when the Steelers roll into town.

Maclin, who has compiled 39 catches for 531 yards and a touchdown, exited the Chiefs' loss to the Vikings on Sunday after sustaining a blow to the head in the fourth quarter. He did not return to the game and missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. With quarterback Alex Smith's top target likely out, the Chiefs will turn to Albert Wilson, Chris Conley and Travis Kelce as alternate options.

Keenan Allen

Despite sitting out practice all week, the Chargers wide receiver is listed as questionable and expected to play Sunday against the Raiders.

Allen suffered a hip flexor injury in last Sunday's loss to the Packers and missed the majority of the fourth quarter, though he still managed to pull in 14 catches for 157 yards. If the nature of the injury is worse than the Chargers believe, the team has plenty of options in wide receiver Malcom Floyd, running back Danny Woodhead and tight end Antonio Gates, who is another game-time decision.
