For two years, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London has been making do with the offensive situation he was drafted into. He had Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder throwing him the football, overcoming questionable spacing and personnel to find opportunities to get the football, being more of an asset as a blocker than a receiver in some games. According to CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards, that last one isn’t as much of a problem. That willingness to block and set the tone in the running game helped Edwards name London an NFL All-Breakout Team candidate headed into his new offense.
The Rams style offense that Zac Robinson is bringing over has always rewarded wide receivers willing to block in space. Going back to my notes from the 2022 NFL Draft, London was a committed blocker, driving his feet on contact in the run game. He became more effective as he added mass to his frame. As Atlanta welcomes its new offense, London is one that stands to benefit the most.
London’s aggressive nature is more than just an asset in the run game. London uses his assertiveness to win in contested catch situations all over the field. According to PFF, London led the league in contested catches with 17 in 2023 while being one of six receivers with 30+ contested catch opportunities. Hopefully, with a new offense, London will have an easier time gaining separation and being an asset in the passing game.
