The initial waiver claim period has come and gone, and the Atlanta Falcons, sitting eighth in line in claiming priority, grabbed…nobody.
Many fans had been hoping for Atlanta to scoop up a new wide receiver or cornerback to strengthen its roster, but the team has either elected to bypass the waiver claim process or got beat out for someone they may have had an interest in. So, should fans panic about the lack of upgrades? Not yet.
Atlanta can still explore signing free-agent veterans who bypass the waiver system; four-year vested veteran status is the minimum requirement, so players like wide receiver Noah Brown are still an option for the team. Teams are still making cuts; when one player is signed off waivers, another will likely hit the door, so this first round of players shouldn’t be viewed as the last round. The staff has been high on the roster they have assembled, so it’s no surprise that after two significant additions (Mattew Judon and Justin Simmons), the team would be quiet at the beginning of the waiver claim process.
Terry Fontenot is coming off a hot streak, and fans hope he can keep it going.
