Cowboys faithful rejoiced when the Columbus, Ohio, prosecutor’s office decided not to pursue domestic abuse charges agent rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott. But court documents reveal he may not quite be in the clear in the NFL’s eyes.
In court documents obtained by the Star-Telegram, Elliott and ex-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson had a discussion via text messages about an upcoming NFL drug test.

Thompson texted Elliott: "I know you're stressed out, if you need me call me. Just do everything you can to pass your drug test tomorrow. You’ll be okay. I’m here for you."
Elliott responded with “I'm gonna pass," and later said: "About to live in this sauna the next 24 hours."
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed displeasure with Elliott after the rookie visited a marijuana shop in Seattle during the preseason. And this text exchange, paired with that visit, could be enough to land the fourth-overall pick in the intervention stage of the NFL’s substance-abuse program.

"Honestly, I have no idea what you are talking about," Elliott told the Dallas Morning News when asked Wednesday about the texts. "I haven't seen those."
Frank C. Salzano, Elliott’s lead legal advisor, told the Star-Telegram the text conversation is "a non story."
We’ll see if the NFL agrees.
