Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Eli Rogers hasn't taken a snap in the NFL since 2018 and hasn't even signed with another team in the league since the Steelers cut him in 2019.
Rogers showed some promise in 2016, when he totaled 48 catches for 594 yards and three touchdowns. However, he was never able to replicate those numbers in the two years after, which included a torn ACL during the 2017 playoffs and a suspension in 2018.
Rogers is now 31 years old and can't understand why he hasn't gotten another shot in the NFL, he said on social media on Friday. Apparently, watching training camp videos of receivers not being able to get open spurred this on.
"All I’ve been seeing is dudes get clamped in training camp and I still can’t get a shot to show WHY I’m arguably the best route runners of my generation," he wrote on X, before clarifying he meant "one of" the best route runners.

When someone in the replies pointed out his age, Rogers said that age is irrelevant in respect to his ability to get open.
The ability to repeatedly do a thing consistently in football depends on your level on conditioning. Respectfully.

Rogers also isn't a fan of the footwork drills he sees some players doing.
These WR’s be doing all of these cute foot work drills that was MADE FOR INSTAGRAM that has nothing to do with the actual movements you do when running a route is why there’s a significant decrease of that skill today.

Since last playing in the NFL in 2018, Rogers has played in the XFL twice, once in 2020 with the DC Defenders, and again in 2023 with the Orlando Guardians. He tallied a combined total of 51 receptions for 483 yards and two touchdowns.
