Eagles vs. Cowboys odds, prediction, betting trends for 'Sunday Night Football' image

The Eagles and Cowboys were co-favorites to win the NFC East going into the 2019 NFL season. Although the teams are tied for first place through Week 6, they are both only 3-3 going into their "Sunday Night Football" matchup in Dallas (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).

With a tough second-half schedule ahead for both teams, there's much on the line in Week 7 to build momentum toward eventually taking the division outright. While the winner will be in the driver's seat to win a second East title in three years, the loser will be left looking for more answers and stuck with a tough hole out of which it will need to dig.

Here's everything to know about betting on Eagles vs. Cowboys in Week 7, including updated odds, trends and our prediction.

Betting odds for Eagles vs. Cowboys

Dallas holds the mild home-field advantage coming off three consecutive losses, while Philadelphia also has been uneven and unpredictable in their own way. This is essentially the expected toss-up game.

Eagles vs. Cowboys all-time series

The Cowboys have extended their series lead to 68-52 after winning three consecutive games, including in overtime in Dallas last December. The Eagles' last win came in their Super Bowl-winning season in '17, when they routed the Cowboys 34-9 in Dallas in November. The Cowboys overall are 4-2 straight up and 4-2 against the spread over the past six contests.

Three trends to know

— 64 percent of bettors like the Eagles to cover the small spread, and with that, an overwhelming 72 percent are going with them straight up on the moneyline.

— Despite some offensive injuries piling up on both sides, 62 percent of bettors like the game going over the above-average point total.

— The Cowboys were favorites in every previous game this season, either losing or both winning and covering.

Three things to watch

Prescott vs. the Eagles' pass defense

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a sizzling start but has cooled off the past three weeks in losses to the Saints, Packers and Jets. The Eagles have had major issues with their pass defense all season long, with everyone from Case Keenum to Kirk Cousins picking them apart. Prescott should have both starting offensive tackles, Tyron Smith and La'el Collins, back for this game and it also looks good for top wide receiver Amari Cooper to play. The Eagles can contain Ezekiel Elliott and the running game, so everything there's for Prescott for the taking in a pass-happy approach.

Wentz vs. the Cowboys' pass defense

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has struggled to stretch the field without speedy outside receiver DeSean Jackson, who will also miss this game, but the Cowboys have given up more big plays than expected with their bend-but-don't-break defensive philosophy. Wentz can also expect the run to be slowed so he needs to use wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert to pick apart Dallas' banged-up secondary to have a chance on the other side of Prescott.

Conservative Garrett vs. aggressive Pederson

Jason Garrett tends to get too conservative at times as the Cowboys coach, while Doug Pederson has a little trouble going too far the other direction for the Eagles. Garrett should be the one pushing for more attack mode based on strengths, while Pederson needs to rein in his team based on weaknesses. In a tight chess match, a few critical decisions from the coaches and their staffs can make a big difference.

Stat that matters

After a slow start to his career games against the Eagles, Prescott owned them twice last season by completing 68 of 90 passes for 725 yards and 5 total touchdowns. At the same time, Wentz also played well in those games, completing 54 of 76 passes for 588 yards and 5 total touchdowns. This game will likely be decided by something other than QB play.

Eagles vs. Cowboys prediction

The Eagles have a limited offense with their rushing inconsistency and heavy reliance on the short-to-intermediate passing game. The Cowboys are trending a lot more in the right direction with their health both offensively and defensively. They will win another typical close matchup with the better play at home in the fourth quarter.

Cowboys 24, Eagles 20
