The Philadelphia Eagles suffered an embarrassing end to their 2023 campaign.
After started the year 10–1 and looking like the best team in the NFC by a fairly wide margin, the Eagles collapsed in wild fashion down the stretch, losing five of their final six games in the regular season before being unceremoniously knocked out of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was a tough blow for a team that had reached the Super Bowl just a year earlier, and according to offensive tackle Lane Johnson, the poor end to last year has been a big motivation to turn things around heading into 2024.
“Last year, the last seven games was a total misrepresentation of what we were, and we didn’t do anything to right that wrong. We’re eager to do that,” Johnson said while appearing as a guest on The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday.
“As bad as stuff was, we never got it corrected. We did a lot of work this offseason,” Johnson said. “We’re ready to get this bad taste out of our mouth and get things back on track again.”
The Eagles will have their work cut out for them, with the San Francisco 49ers still the top dog in the NFC as things stand, and young up-and-coming teams like the Detroit Lions also ready to make a play for the throne.
Philadelphia will get their first chance to prove they’ve turned things around when they kick off the season in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers.
