It's that time of year when every NFL team technically has the same chances as any other to win the Super Bowl, even if they know in their hearts it really isn't true. It's also the time of year when fans entertain even the most ludicrous trade ideas, so long as it involves a star player at a perceived position of need.
You don't need to remind Seattle Seahawks fans of that, because analysts and fans of other teams have been trying to make a DK Metcalf trade happen every offseason for about five years running now. This year is no different, and the latest Metcalf trade proposal is completely out of bounds.
Here's what the folks at BVM Sportsdesk came up with for a deal sending DK Metcalf from Seattle to the Dallas Cowboys.
"A potential blockbuster trade involving Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf is drawing attention as the NFL trade deadline approaches. If the Seahawks' playoff hopes fade, they could reconsider Metcalf's future, especially with his contract expiring after 2025. The Dallas Cowobys, with an "all-in" approach, may pursue Metcalf to enhance their offense, pairing him with standout wideout CeeDee Lamb. The Seahawks could seek high-value picks and possibly additional players in exchange, making this a significant transaction for both teams."
Why this DK Metcalf trade proposal won't happen
Where to begin? First of all, there isn't any real trade proposal here to speak of - only a mention of Seattle seeking high-value picks and possibly players. Secondly, like all absurd DK Metcalf trade ideas there isn't one good reason listed why the Seahawks should trade him in the first place. Sure, it makes sense for the Cowboys, who need receiver help - but these trade idesa are ridiculous from Seattle's perspective.
Metcalf may not have reached his full potential yet given his incredible athletic ability. However, we see that as a failure of the coaching staffs he's had to work with. Pete Carroll deserves credit for what he did in the Legion of Boom years but that was a long time ago, and he was never able to get Metcalf playing even remotely disciplined on the field.
Moreover, Metcalf is still only 26 years old and hasn't gotten to work with a truly-gifted offensive playcaller yet once in his career (that's about to change with Ryan Grubb, though). Despite not having that advantage, Metcalf has still put up some remarkable numbers. Most notably in 2021 he totaled 12 touchdowns and 967 yards, all while playing on a broken foot for the majority of the regular season.
The only way the Seahawks would think about considering dreaming about trading Metcalf is if they were to totally tank the first half of this coming season AND Metcalf did something truly terrible off the field. Unless both of those highly-unlikely scenarios come about over the next two months, you can go on assuming Metcalf is never going to wear another uniform as long as he plays in the NFL.
