DK Metcalf injury update: Seahawks WR returns vs. Lions after suffering rib injury image

It looks like the Seahawks' offense has avoided what would have been a major loss.

Seattle wide receiver DK Metcalf briefly left the game against the Lions in the first half after suffering a rib injury. On the opening drive of the game, he was sandwiched between two Detroit defenders on a catch near the end zone, taking a hit right to the side of his upper body.

Metcalf was seen walking to the locker room and was initially ruled questionable to return with a rib injury. However, after a brief time in the locker room, the wide receiver returned to the field.

The fifth-year receiver for Seattle has been one half of the dynamic wide receiver duo with Tyler Lockett. Metcalf put together his second 1,000 receiving yard season in 2022, and last week, started the 2023 season with three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks loss.

Metcalf was hurt on the opening drive of the game for Seattle. He made a 16-yard catch and was tackled at the Detroit 1-yard line. As he was falling to the ground, Lions safety Kerby Joseph lowered his shoulder right into Metcalf's side.

The drive ended in a Kenneth Walker 1-yard score, but Metcalf later left for the locker room and was ruled questionable to return. He recorded two catches for 34 yards

Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the 20th overall pick in this year's draft, also was injured during the game against the Lions. He went into the blue medical tent to evaluate his leg, but fortunately, he returned to the game.

Seattle cornerback Riq Woolen has been ruled questionable to return to the game after suffering a chest injury in the first half.
