Detroit Lions training camp is in full swing at Allen Park. On Saturday, the Lions hosted their first practice of the season which was open to the public at the Meijer Performance Center.

This is one of the most exciting times of the year. Players are battling furiously for every roster spot, and we seem to get a new standout player every day. The wide receivers room is one of the most interesting position groups to watch thus far.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the best receivers in the league and is the group's star. Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, and Donovan Peoples-Jones are also likely locks to make the final roster. The final spot or two is seemingly up for grabs, though, with several different wide receivers competing.

In my latest 53-man roster projection, I had Antoine Green and Isaiah Williams earning the last two roster spots. On Saturday, however, it was a different wide receiver who stole the show.

According to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, Maurice Alexander had the most consistent practice among the wide receivers vying for a spot. Twentyman, who noted that it seems like a different receiver is stepping up each day, offered the following:

It seems like every day we get a new receiver who is fighting for one of the last roster spots stepping up and having a big day. Early in camp it was Daurice Fountain and Jalon Calhoun. Saturday, Maurice Alexander made a couple great catches down the field and he drew an interference penalty on Steven Gilmore deep down the field on a free play after the defense jumped offside. Alexander also has some return ability on special teams. He's trying to put himself in the mix for one of the final roster spots.

Along with Alexander, Fountain, Calhoun and Green, Kaden Davis, who was also a standout during the spring, and Isaiah Williams, who Twentyman noted had the catch of the day on Saturday, have managed to shine in at least one practice.

Safe to say, this wide receiver competition may come down to the very last day.
