While they have yet to make them official, the Detroit Lions signed several undrafted free agents in the wake of the 2024 NFL Draft to help fill out their roster — but how did they do with those signings?
Well, Thor Nystrom of Fantasy Pros recently ranked the UDFA classes of each team in the NFL and the Lions came in 22nd. Nystrom lists linebacker Steele Chambers, wide receiver Isaiah Williams, tight end Isaac Rex and center Kingsley Eguakun as those UDFAs we should be keeping an eye on the most.
The Lions followed up an outstanding draft – which earned one of my two yearly A+ grades – with a more modest showing in the UDFA bargain bin. They did, however, add four prospects to keep an eye on in LB Steele Chambers, WR Isaiah Williams, TE Isaac Rex, and C Kingsley Eguakun.
This is a worse ranking than what the Lions received based on a consensus board of rankings compiled by Arif Hasan of Wide Left, whose system has Detroit's class ranked as the No. 12 group.
Williams and Eguakun were two UDFAs we pegged as ones with the best chance to make the 53-man roster, along with kicker James Turner, who will compete for the kicker job with Michael Badgley, assuming he makes it to training camp.
The Lions don't exactly have ideal depth options at wide receiver currently, giving Williams a fighting chance to make the cut. Detroit is also on the lookout for depth upfront, and a possible long-term solution up the gut, which is where Eguakun fits.
