While the Detroit Lions are rock-solid overall, the team may look into adding more to its roster ahead of a 2024 season in which the Lions have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
One position that could use more options is edge rusher, where the Lions are expected to start veteran Marcus Davenport, who was signed in free agency. The problem is that Davenport has had issues staying healthy during his career.
In a recent article naming players who could be on the trade block ahead of the start of the season, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox listed the Lions as a possible trade partner for three stud defenders in the Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward, the New York Jets' Haason Reddick and the New England Patriots' Matthew Judon.
Heyward has been an elite interior defender during his career and would certainly be a fantastic addition, but with Alim McNeill and D.J. Reader on the roster, Detroit is unlikely to pursue him if available. Instead, adding a backup is far more likely.
It's a different story with Judon and Reddick, though, as not only would either beef up Detroit's edge rusher group, they would start and provide a significant upgrade in the process. Acquiring one of the two is much more likely than the Lions trading for Heyward.
That said, if we've learned anything over the years, it's that you can never say never with Lions general manager Brad Holmes. After all, he has the money and motivation to consider any and every move that would make the team better right now. One or more of the three aforementioned players would do just that.
