The Detroit Lions made several additions to their cornerbacks room during the 2024 offseason after a campaign in which they finished with the sixth-worst pass defense in the NFL.
One of those additions was first-round pick, Terrion Arnold, who the Lions traded up for in the 2024 NFL Draft. The hope is that Arnold can step into a starting role in his first season and be the difference-maker Detroit needs to improve its defense.
That's a big role for a rookie to step into, and that's especially true when that role is on a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. So, it comes as no surprise that Arnold is feeling some pressure, something he recently admitted to in a post on TikTok.
“If you asked me how football was going, I would say good, but on a deeper level, I would say this 21-year-old kid is under so much pressure to perform and if my team doesn’t win a (ring) it’s considered a failure but I’m built for it and ready,” he wrote.
Arnold has all the tools to be a lockdown corner at the next level, but how quickly he develops into that caliber of player remains to be seen. The good news is, the Lions don't necessarily need him to be that guy in Year 1 with Carlton Davis also on the roster.
As long as Davis plays at his typical level, all Arnold needs to do is be a solid No. 2 and the Lions will have more than enough to be dramatically better in the secondary, which would take this team to another level. Anything more than that from Arnold will be icing on the cake.
