The Detroit Lions attempted to upgrade their pass-rush this offseason with the signing of Marcus Davenport in free agency, but it remains to be seen if that will be enough to get the job done.
Detroit desperately needed to give Aidan Hutchinson some help, and while Davenport has the potential to do just that, he also has a checkered past with injuries and is far from a guarantee to provide the boost the Lions need.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggested the Lions as a potential trade suitor for New York Giants 2021 second-round pick, Azeez Ojulari, who has 16 sacks over his first three seasons in the NFL, including a career-high eight during his rookie campaign.
The problem with Ojulari is that he's been unable to stay healthy the past two years and is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Even still, the Lions can't be picky in their quest to upgrade the edge rusher group and they could certainly do worse than taking a chance on the 24-year-old.
Knox wasn't done there, though. He also suggested the Lions as a potential suitor for Arizona Cardinals stud safety Budda Baker. However, this one doesn't make as much sense for the Lions.
Granted, nothing should be off the table during a season in which the Lions have dreams of winning a Super Bowl, and Baker would certainly be a welcomed addition to any defense.
But the Lions are already pretty well-stocked at safety with Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph and Ifeatu Melifonwu, so the need isn't anywhere near as dire.
Further, Baker is also in the final year of his deal, so the Lions could end up giving up draft capital for a rental at a position that isn't a need.
Of course, nobody is going to think twice about it if the Lions get over the hump and win a Super Bowl. But if we had to choose one player for Detroit to acquire out of these two, it would be Ojulari.
