The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams are releasing their initial injury report ahead of the Week 1 contest on Sunday night at Ford Field. The Lions have already put theirs out, but we're still waiting on Los Angeles'
The Lions' injury report was estimated but features some great news, as the team did not list either running back Jahmyr Gibbs or tight end Sam LaPorta, which means they were estimated as full participants.
Both were sidelined for a significant amount of time this offseason due to their hamstring injuries, but they are on their way to suiting up in Week 1.
Three Lions who did appear on the injury report were safeties Ifeatu Melifonwu and Loren Strickland, and defensive lineman DJ Reader. Melifonwu and Reader were both limited, and Strickland did not take part.
Earlier in the week, head coach Dan Campbell noted that Melifonwu was the only injury concern he had this week, but the limited label suggests he has a shot to play.
On Wednesday, Campbell said "there's a chance" that Reader will suit up in Week 1. Campbell said last week the goal was to get Reader on the field in Week 2.
“There’s a chance, I would say,” Campbell said of Reader's Week 1 status, per Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit. “This week is what we had really circled to get him the bulk of true football... So, yes, there’s still a chance. I’ll know more probably after tomorrow than I do right now. He’s doing well. He’s doing well.”
Now, a look at the Lions' full injury report for Wednesday, and we'll update this page once the Rams' becomes available.
