After three successful seasons with the Detroit Lions that included a run to the NFC Championship Game in 2023, quarterback Jared Goff is entering the final year of his contract with the team.

A recent report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed that the two sides are talking about a contract extension that could pay the veteran signal-caller anywhere between $45-$50 million per season.

On Tuesday, Goff took the podium to meet with the media and confirmed that the two sides are talking about a new deal but didn't go into more detail.

"There's been discussions (about a contract extension), but I'll leave it at that," Goff said, per Colton Pouncey of The Athletic.

When asked if he expects to get a deal done, Goff said "you hope so, but I'm not in control of that," while also adding, "I love it here and would love to be here a long time."

The expectation all of last season was that Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would land a head-coaching gig in this last cycle, but that turned out not to be the case and instead Johnson is set to return for this third season as the play-caller.

While many were surprised to see Johnson not land a head-coaching gig, Goff said that he had a "hunch that (Johnson) would be back," per ESPN's Eric Woodyard, which the quarterback says was based on conversations the two had during the season.
