The Detroit Lions dropped their preseason opener on Thursday night against the New York Giants, 14-3, and saw a handful of players come down with injuries, including quarterback Hendon Hooker.
Hooker made his preseason debut in the third quarter and played for a few drives before exiting early. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed after the game that Hooker suffered a concussion and is in the protocol.
Hooker had a solid showing before exiting the contest. He completed 5-of-9 passes for 36 yards and carried the ball four times for 34 yards. Hooker showed poise in the pocket and was decisive, making it a good performance overall.
One of his drives was a went 88 yards on 14 plays, but it ended up stalling at the Giants' three-yard line after a failed fourth-down attempt.
His most impressive play came when he ran over a defender for a first-down run. That may have also been the play in which he suffered the injury, but we can't say for sure. Hooker ended up finishing the drive.
