The Detroit Lions could use more help at the wide receiver position ahead of the 2024 NFL campaign, as the team is depending heavily on a relative unknown in Jameson Williams and lacks ideal depth behind he and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
One player we've suggested the Lions should sign is wide receiver Michael Thomas, who is certainly not the elite player he once was but would still provide another much-needed depth option behind Williams and St. Brown.
According to BetOnline, the Lions are tied for the seventh-highest odds to sign the veteran wide receiver at +1400. The Atlanta Falcons are also sitting at +1400.
The teams given better odds to sign Thomas are the Dallas Cowboys (+300), Buffalo Bills (+500), Baltimore Ravens (+600), Denver Broncos (+800), Kansas City Chiefs (+1000) and Jacksonville Jaguars (+1000).
While his decline and injury history are certainly concerns, it's not like Detroit would be counting on Thomas to play a big role. At best, he'd be the No. 3 wide receiver and No. 4 option in the passing game overall, assuming everyone stays healthy.
Adding to that, he can play in the slot and on the boundary, which gives the Lions multiple ways to utilize him in the offense.
There's very little risk associated with bringing Thomas in. He'll come cheap and on a one-year deal, so Detroit can just part ways with him during or after the season if things don't pan out.
