Detroit Lions draft pick makes epic name change on X profile image

The most memorable quote from Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes following the 2024 NFL Draft was about sixth-round pick and Boston College guard, Christian Mahogany — and it's something the rookie is fully embracing.

During his pre-draft presser on Saturday, Holmes was asked about his new guard, and the Lions general manager stated that Mahogany has "some dirtbag in him," referring to the Boston College product's toughness and play style.

"He's got some dirtbag in him," Holmes said. "He's one of these Jersey kids who doesn't take a lot of crap."

Mahogany was asked about that assessment from Holmes and had absolutely no issue with it.

"It's something that I really pride myself on and I'm just glad Mr. Holmes saw it, as well as coach Campbell and everyone else," he said.

And Mahogany is taking it a step further. On his X profile, the Lions draft pick changed his name to "Christian Dirtbag Mahogany," which is absolutely epic.

Based on the consensus board of 101 draft experts compiled by Arif Hasan of Wide Left, the Lions got themselves a steal in Mahogany, who was ranked No. 93 overall but was drafted with the No. 210 overall pick.

Even Holmes was shocked Mahogany was available to the Lions in that spot.

“I was shocked. I didn’t think he would still be there at that point," Holmes said. "I can’t really go into details. I can probably point out a thing here or there that may have been a reason that we’ll keep internally, but there’s other players that I probably would have had a lot more questions on that went. I don’t know. I just know that he fits how we want to play, and he’s a tough, physical – he’s got some dirtbag in him and he’s just one of those tough, Jersey kids that doesn’t take a lot of crap. He’s got some fun tape to watch and he’s gone against some good defensive linemen and he’s done well versus them. So, we were excited to get him.”

Now, Mahogany will look to earn a depth role for himself in 2024, with the hope that he can eventually take a starting job in the future.
