Detroit Lions fans, rejoice! The start of training camp is less than a week away and the first preseason game is less than a month away. With that being said, we are in the dead period of the calendar until them, when everyone decides to drop hot takes and lists.
One of those lists was recently released by well-known commentator Colin Cowherd. Cowherd compiled his list of the NFL's top-10 head coaches heading into 2024. Curiously, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was nowhere to be found.
From No. 1 to No. 10, Andy Reid, Sean McVay, John Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFleur, Kevin Stefanski, Sean McDermott, and DeMeco Ryans are the ten coaches picked by Cowherd.
Several of these choices are obvious and understandable, but a few certainly seem like reaches.

For example, Kevin Stefanski has yet to win a divisional crown. DeMeco Ryans did so in his first year at the helm, but one season is a small sample size. Sean Payton has a laundry list of achievements but has not coached in a playoff game since 2020.
Campbell has a 31-34-1 record at the helm in Detroit, but the coach led the Lions to a 12-5 record and the NFC Championship Game 2023 and should be included in this list.
Lions fans are used to being doubted and ignored, so the exclusion from Cowherd's list won't be surprising. The quest to return to the NFC Championship will begin on September 8 when the Lions welcome in the Los Angeles Rams.
