Detroit Lions: What DeVonta Smith extension means for Amon-Ra St. Brown image

With Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown up for a contract extension soon, it's always worth taking note of other wide receiver deals around the NFL.

The latest to get the bag is Philadelphia Eagles wideout, DeVonta Smith, who reportedly landed a three-year deal worth $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed.

Assuming those numbers hold up (early reporting on deals can be hit-or-miss), the annual average is tied for fourth at the position, and the guaranteed money is ninth, according to Over the Cap.

Smith's figures are about what St. Brown can expect in a new deal with the Lions, although the latter will almost certainly get more money, and quite possibly another year.

After all, St. Brown has become one of the best players at his position in the NFL and is the undisputed No. 1 receiver for the Lions, whereas Smith is the clear No. 2 for Philly. St. Brown has also outproduced Smith overall during their respective three-year careers and is coming off a career-best campaign with 1,515 receiving yards and 10 scores, numbers Smith hasn't reached.

Back in March, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Lions and St. Brown were "close" to a contract extension that would pay him around $26-$28 million per year.

Now, after seeing Smith get $25 million per, it's pretty much a certainty that St. Brown will get what Russini reported — and deservedly so.
