With the NFL Draft just days away, there is buzz floating around Broncos Country that the team could indeed be looking at trading its best player.
Though fans would likely hate to see the team move on from Patrick Surtain II, it is no secret that the Broncos need to find an answer at the quarterback position and head coach Sean Payton could be planning an aggressive approach to do just that.
Broncos could trade Pat Surtain II to move up in draft
Surtain, the team's first-round pick in 2021, has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons and is considered by many to be the best cornerback in the NFL. Sitting at No. 12 in a draft riddled with solid prospects at the quarterback position, the Broncos could look to include Surtain in a trade package to get into the top 5 of the selection process in order to select a player such as J.J. McCarthy or Drake Maye.
The Broncos are also lacking a second-round pick and with a roster that includes several big holes, could also consider the idea of moving Surtain for a package of picks to gain more draft capital in a class that is loaded with talent.
The Broncos are not one player away from competing for the Super Bowl and in order for Payton and the Broncos' front office to truly embrace the idea of a rebuild, there is no doubt that Surtain is the one player on the roster that could bring the team the best return.
Teams have inquired about the availability of Surtain before and while he should not be sold on the cheap, the Broncos should consider moving him for the right package, which could be presented to them ahead of the start of the draft on Thursday night.
