Remember how DeAndre Hopkins held out the first day of the Texans' training camp because he wanted a new contract, but then joined his teammates a day later amid a report the team had apparently agreed to start negotiations?
Apparently those talks are not happening.
MORE: Top wide receivers | Texans need to do right thing with Hopkins
General manager Rick Smith told Inside Training Camp Live Saturday that, "There is not a negotiation happening at this point. He's under contract for two more years."
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported when Hopkins ended his walkout that the team had agreed to talk about a new contract if Hopkins reported to camp.
For his part, Hopkins is more focused on football, and learning how to work with new Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler.
"It's not something that I sit here and think about," Hopkins told InsideTraining Camp Live of the contract. "I play football for a living. That's my focus right now, not really what's going on off the field because what goes on on the field, it'll handle itself and work itself out."
Hopkins, who had 111 catches for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015, will earn a $1 million base salary this year. The Texans have already exercised the wide receiver's fifth-year option for 2017, for which he will earn $7.9 million. That's still not enough to even crack the top 20 in salary among wide receivers, according to Overthecap.com.
