With rumors and speculation swirling about Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams possibly being traded to the New York Jets at some point to join his buddy and former teammate, Aaron Rodgers, Adams' agents addressed the situation on Tuesday.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Adams' agents completely shut down all the trade talk surrounding the Raiders star, saying there are no trade talks between the two teams. He also called any rumors or speculation contrary to that as "baseless, unfounded speculation."
“This is baseless, unfounded speculation and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk — period.”
There have been shortage of people adding fuel to the fire recently.
While Adams has said he is a Raider and isn't going anywhere, he did say that Rodgers has been in his ear about a possible reunion. Rodgers also told reporters last week that "I can’t wait to play with (Adams) again."
More recently, former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason said that if Adams gets dealt, he's hearing it would happen prior to the start of the 2024 season. However, Esiason's comments were speculation rather than rumor. We broke down why you should take his comments with a grain of salt right here.
The fact of the matter is, barring Adams really, really wanting out of Las Vegas, it would make no sense for the Raiders to deal him now for several reasons.
He is a key piece in the Raiders' offense, and Las Vegas has a good enough roster to compete for a playoff spot this season. Trading Adams now would hurt those chances and destroy team moral.
Further, if the Raiders do want to trade Adams, it would make more sense to deal him close to the deadline, when they could get more in return from a team desperate to add a playmaker of his caliber.
But even that seems unrealistic, as the Raiders would have to be out of playoff contention by the time the deadline rolls around and that isn't likely to happen.
Barring the Raiders having an awful season ahead of the trade deadline, don't expect them to trade Adams in 2024.
