Cowboys' Stephen Jones backs Dak Prescott long term despite injury: 'He's our future' image

Dak will be back, according to Stephen Jones.

Dak Prescott will be out for the remainder of the 2020 season after suffering a devastating ankle injury during Dallas' Week 5 matchup vs. the Giants, leaving some questions around Prescott's future in Big D.

When asked whether or not the injury could alter Dallas' plans in the future when it comes to Prescott, the Cowboys' COO left no doubt as to where he will be playing in 2020, and if the team's plan to keep the fifth-year QB is altered.

IYER: Dak Prescott's injury gives Cowboys more reason to give him long-term contract

"Absolutely not. Absolutely not. He's our future. He's special," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "If anyone can overcome anything it will be Dak. This is something our doctors feel good that he'll overcome, and he'll come back better than ever."

Prescott was searching for a long-term contract prior to the start of the 2020 NFL season, but the gap couldn't be bridged between the incumbent QB and the Dallas front office. After signing the franchise tag for 2020, Prescott was slated to hit free agency following the end of the season.

Prescott is expected to make a full recovery following successful surgery on Sunday night, with a four-to-six month recovery window. He should be ready for the start of the 2021 season, and it sounds like he'll be playing quarterback for Dallas, if Jones' words are to be believed.

Dallas (2-3) turns to veteran QB Andy Dalton in Prescott's stead, who led Dallas to a thrilling 37-34 win over New York.
