The confusing Cowboys head coaching odyssey seems to have come to an end.

On Monday, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that the Cowboys have agreed to terms with Mike McCarthy to become the new head coach in Dallas.

On Tuesday, the Cowboys made it official, hiring McCarthy to be the next head coach.

The initial report came less than 24 hours after the Cowboys officially parted ways with Jason Garrett, who had been the head coach of the Cowboys since 2011. Garrett was the interim head coach for Dallas in 2010, taking over for a fired Wade Phillips.

Garrett was relieved of his duties following a disappointing 8-8 season during which some believed the Cowboys had a shot at the Super Bowl. They missed out on their chance to win the division in Week 17.

McCarthy, who sat out a year after entertaining jobs in the 2019 offseason, coached the Packers between 2005 and 2018, leading to his dismissal during the 2018 season. McCarthy has a Super Bowl championship on his resume, winning Super Bowl 45 vs. the Steelers, and his record stands at 125-77-2, not including a 10-8 playoff record.

McCarthy's end with the Packers came amid reports that the relationship between the head coach and quarterback Aaron Rodgers had soured, and was detailed in a lengthy report from Bleacher Report.
