The Indianapolis Colts are just over two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft, and their selection in the second round currently sits at No. 46 overall.

The Colts haven't held this selection slot many times throughout franchise history and only twice have they selected players with the No. 46 overall pick. Right now, it's the only second-round pick they have, but that could change if they wind up trading down.

1972 NFL Draft

The first player the Colts selected at No. 46 overall in the NFL Draft came before the franchise moved to Indy. In fact, the player first used with this pick spent two years with the Colts but is perhaps best known as the "Godfather of the Wishbone."

While Jack Mildren played quarterback at Oklahoma, he entered the NFL Draft and was selected as a defensive back. He spent two seasons with the Colts and one with the New England Patriots before calling it a career.

2017 NFL Draft

Coincidentally, this is the second time the Colts have held the No. 15 and No. 46 overall picks in the same draft class. The other year was 2017. They selected safety Malik Hooker at No. 15 overall that season and followed that up with the selection of cornerback Quincy Wilson at No. 46 overall in 2017.

Things didn't quite work out well for Wilson. He had some flashes here and there but was traded for the No. 211 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to the New York Jets. The Colts selected his replacement, Isaiah Rodgers, with that pick. Wilson currently plays in the UFL for the San Antonio Brahmas.
