Colts vs. Commanders was supposed to be headlined by Carson Wentz's return to Indianapolis, but an injury will force Wentz to miss this game and a few others.

In his place, a new storyline has taken hold. Sam Ehlinger, with zero regular-season passes under his belt, will make his first NFL start for the Colts after the organization made the stunning decision to bench veteran Matt Ryan on Monday.

It's clear the Colts have moved on from Ryan, for a variety of reasons, but the team is just a half-game out of a playoff spot at 3-3-1. Ehlinger has a chance not only to prove himself as a viable NFL quarterback, but also lead the Colts to the postseason. A home win over the Commanders would go a long way toward achieving that goal.

Washington has had more lowlights than highlights this season, but at 3-4, Ron Rivera's team isn't dead yet. Taylor Heinicke and a strong performance by the defense helped lead the Commanders to an upset win over the Packers in Week 7.

Washington dominated time of possession in the second half, something the offense struggled to do when Wentz was at the helm. If the Commanders can play a similar style of offense and also take advantage of Ehlinger's inexperience, the path to a win is clear.

On the other hand, Indianapolis' defense has looked strong even while the offense cratered. Heinicke will have his hands full and will have to avoid some of the mistakes he made early in the win over Green Bay. It'll be worth watching whether Ehlinger's presence gives the entire Colts team a jolt.
