The Indianapolis Colts claimed running back Demetric Felton off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Monday.
The team also announced undrafted free agent rookie running back Trent Pennix was waived with an injury designation.
The backfield for the Colts got banged up during the preseason opener against the Denver Broncos, a game they lost 34-30.
Pennix injured his groin during the fourth quarter, and backup Trey Sermon played only three snaps before exiting with a hamstring injury.
Felton was a sixth-round pick with the Browns during the 2021 NFL Draft. He attended UCLA where he was named second-team All-Pac-12 in 2020.
The 26-year-old hasn't seen much action since being drafted. He's appeared in 24 career games (four starts), taking 20 receptions for 189 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. As a runner, he's taken eight carries for 20 rushing yards.
Felton faces an uphill battle to make the roster with Trey Goodson and Evan Hull also vying for spots on the active roster.
