MORE: The worst of the worst Kaepernick takes
Kaepernick, of course, has been sitting or kneeling during the national anthem before 49ers games to protest what he calls oppression of people of color and police brutality. His actions have inspired athletes in other sports, all the way down to the high school level, to stage similar protests.
A Reuters poll earlier this month found that 64 percent of Americans support Kaepernick's right to protest, but found 72 percent thought his protests were unpatriotic.
While veterans have voiced support for Kaepernick's right to protest, many others are adamant that it is disrespectful. Zeldin is a major in the Army Reserve.
Police in Linden, N.J., shot and wounded Ahmad Khan Rahami in a confrontation before taking him into custody.
