Colin Kaepernick reportedly refuses to take pay cut, kills Broncos trade for now image

Colin Kaepernick doesn’t like being in San Francisco, but he clearly hates the idea of losing $5 million even more.

According to Bleacher Report, Kaepernick has refused to take a pay cut to go to Denver and the 49ers will not help the Broncos pay the quarterback, killing (for now) any trade talks between the two sides.

Kaepernick, 28, is slated to make $11.9 million in 2016, while the Broncos asked him to take a pay cut and only make $7 million if he came to Denver. Not only was Kaepernick not open to the suggestion, but the 49ers had no interest in footing the leftover $4.9 million in order to appease the Broncos and Kaepernick to make the deal happen.

San Francisco and coach Chip Kelly will now put Kaepernick to work — he attended the 49ers' offseason workout Monday — while the Super Bowl champion Broncos are still left with Mark Sanchez and Trevor Simian as their only QBs.
