Chiefs vs. Vikings odds, picks, predictions: Expert betting tips & more for NFL Week 5 image

When the Chiefs travel to face the Vikings in Minnesota on Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS), they will try to avoid another road scare. Kansas City (3-1) is off to a solid start, but it lost to another NFC North team, Detroit, in Week 1. Minnesota, meanwhile (1-3), has disappointed so far as a 2022 division winner, picking up its first win last week.

There's plenty of star power for this national interconference game. Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins were the co-stars of Netflix's "Quarterback" documentary series. Justin Jefferson, the Vikings' NFL-best wide receiver, is everywhere with his Griddy personality. And now Travis Kelce, the Chiefs' NFL-best tight end, has swiftly transcended into a pop culture icon.

Will that offensive talent from both sides translate into an intriguing, tight shootout? Here's a betting breakdown of Chiefs-Vikings:

Spread: Chiefs -4 (-110) | Vikings +4 (-110)
Over/Under: OVER 52.5 (-110) | UNDER 52.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Chiefs -200 | Cowboys +165

The line started at Chiefs -5.5, so there's been some tightening toward the home team. It's a reaction to the Chiefs getting a close call on the road vs. the Jets, while the Vikings are coming off their first win in Carolina.

Should you bet the Chiefs against the spread?

The Chiefs are trying to find their way offensively. Mahomes has needed to grind a bit, making some uncharacteristic mistakes as he tries to mesh with another remixed receiving corps behind Travis Kelce. The Vikings' defense is a mess everywhere with Brian Flores and may help Mahomes out of his mild slump. Cousins has a lot more weapons than just Justin Jefferson with which to attack a Chiefs' defense having a few key injuries.

Our Pick: PUSH but lean Vikings +4 (-110)

Should you bet the Chiefs-Vikings OVER?

The Chiefs aren't the Chiefs in terms of lighting up the scoreboard. They can run well when needed and are willing to do so to shorten games. The Vikings should like the matchups for Jefferson and tight end T.J. Hockenson, but it won't be easy against the Chiefs' secondary. Don't expect too much from either running game, too.

Our Pick: UNDER 52.5 (-110)

Should you bet the Vikings on the moneyline?

The Vikings can make a game of it with their playmakers and should have some more energy for their home crowd, as Mahomes will be a marked man in Minnesota. In the end, you can't go against him making the right plays with his arms and feet in the final minutes.

Our Pick: Chiefs (-200)

Final score prediction: Chiefs 27, Vikings 23

Kelce is off to a slow start (on the field) by his standards. He missed Week 1 with a knee injury and has just 17 catches on 26 targets with one TD so far. He's yet to top 69 receiving yards in a game, but look for the Chiefs to scheme him open well, using him like the hybrid wide receiver he can be. Kelce is overdue to shake it off and will work through the lavender haze of defenders for his biggest game since, you know.
