A New Orleans man was arrested after alleged attempts to extort Tyrann Mathieu for over $1 million.
According to WDSU News , which cited an FBI affidavit obtained by the news station, Geourvon Sears demanded via phone and text in April that the Chiefs safety pay him $1.5 million. Sears claimed he would provide the media with allegations of sexual misconduct if Mathieu didn’t comply.
In another text to Mathieu, Sears allegedly told him, "$5 million by Friday, I’m done talking, emailing TMZ now."
Court records also stated that allegedly told relatives of Mathieu, "I want $1.5 million by Friday or I am going to kill all you all."
Mathieu's agent, Denise White of EAG Sports, said the matter is a "very private and personal family issue" but confirmed her client is okay.
"He's dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue," White said. "Tyrann is fine. His family is fine. They are getting through."
The Chiefs and NFL have not commented on the alleged incident.
Mathieu, 26, was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2013 draft. He spent five seasons in Arizona before penning a one-year deal with the Texans.
He then signed a three-year deal worth $42 million with the Chiefs in March.
