The Patriots love their home cooking. New England (4-2) won its 12th consecutive home game, squeaking out a 43-40 victory in a thriller against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs (5-1), handing Kansas City its first loss of the season.
The offenses were exchanging blow for blow and combined for eight touchdowns and nine field goals on the night. Stephen Gostkowski’s kick from 28 yards as time expired gave the Patriots the win.

Tom Brady continued to thrive with the return of Julian Edelman and the addition of Josh Gordon. Brady threw for 340 yards and one touchdown, as well as a rushing score. Pats rookie running back Sony Michel racked up 106 yards on the ground, his second 100-yard rushing performance in his last three games.
It looked like Patrick Mahomes was falling back to earth after an up-and-down first half, but he caught fire in the second half. Mahomes threw for four touchdowns, including three to Tyreek Hill, in the final 30 minutes to keep the Chiefs within striking distance, even briefly giving them a lead.
The Patriots, who are tied for the AFC East lead, will play the Bears in Chicago next week, while the Chiefs host the first-place Bengals.
