The Chargers (4-5) and Raiders (4-4) are both in the AFC wild-card hunt and not too far away from the first-place Chiefs (6-3) in the AFC West. That's what makes the matchup between Los Angeles and Oakland on "Thursday Night Football" (8:20 p.m. ET, Fox, Amazon Prime Video and NFL Network) critical for both teams' potential second-half surge.

Last week, the Chargers upset the Packers at home for their second straight victory, while the Raiders ended a two-game losing streak at home by beating the Lions.

Here's everything to know about betting on Chargers vs. Raiders in Week 10, including updated odds, trends and our prediction for "Thursday Night Football."

Betting odds for 'Thursday Night Football'

  • Spread: Chargers by 1.5
  • Point total: 48.5
  • Odds: Chargers -107, Raiders -103

The Chargers got the line in their favor with their impressive, dominant performance in Week 9 that was more reminiscent of their 12-4 playoff team from last season. The Raiders are surprising home underdogs, given they are 3-1 in such games, including when they "hosted" the Bears in London.

Chargers vs. Raiders all-time series

The Raiders lead the series 63-54-2, but they are dealing with a four-game losing streak in the rivalry as they have been swept by the Chargers in each of the past two seasons. Before then, the Raiders had a four-game winning streak of their own. Oakland lost by 14 at home to Los Angeles last season and in the previous two games the margins of defeat were 16 and 20 points.

Three trends to know

— 55 percent of spread bettors are on the Chargers to basically win a pick 'em game, but 54 percent of moneyline bettors like the Raiders.

— The total is a tough one to navigate, as both teams have capable quarterbacks in Philip Rivers and Derek Carr but also do some good things defensively. That's why bettors are split 51-49 on the game going over.

— The Chargers have covered in all four wins and either failed to cover or pushed in all four losses. The Raiders have produced 3 of their 4 win as underdogs.

Three things to watch

Josh Jacobs vs. the Chargers' run defense

Because of defensive line injuries and ineffective linebacker play, the Chargers have been very giving against the run, still ranked No. 20 in the league despite keeping the Packers' talented backfield in check last week. They also are likely to be without Denzel Perryman in the middle for this game. Jacobs, the easy choice for offensive rookie of the year, should have another big game with his burst and ability to break tackles.

Rivers vs. the Raiders' pass defense

The Raiders are pretty good against the run, so Melvin Gordon may have limited success, but they are ranked No. 32 against the pass, having major trouble covering both wide receivers and running backs. Rivers doesn't mind gunslinging with high volume to Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler, and also has tight end Hunter Henry to pose matchup problems. Oakland needs to win this game with ball control with Jacobs.

Tyrell Williams revenge game

The Raiders are very happy they signed Williams, the former Chargers' wide receiver in free agency, especially after the Antonio Brown debacle. Williams is clearly Oakland's No. 1 wideout and will get that treatment from his tough covering former teammate, Casey Hayward. Williams needs to use his knowledge of the talented cornerback's tendencies to make a key big play or two.

Stat that matters

Rivers is 18-8 in his career against the Raiders. He's rated well over 100 in passing efficiency in ripping apart their defense in the past four meetings. But he was stuck in the 80s during the four-game losing streak. Carr has been the much more efficient QB this season, however, with a 71.2 completion percentage and 105.1 passer rating at 7.9 yards per attempt.

Chargers vs. Raiders prediction

The Raiders' passing game is the wild card here. Jacobs should have a big game to keep the ball moving and the ball away from Rivers. But it's up to Carr to fight through a tough matchup to make some key plays to finish drives with touchdowns. Oakland is hosting its hated rival from Southern California for the last time in the Coliseum and it will be the better team on a emotional night where its defense overachieves.

Raiders 27, Chargers 20
