The San Diego Chargers will be no more.

Unable to reach an agreement with San Diego city officials on a new stadium, Chargers owner Dean Spanos will announce this week he will move the team to Los Angeles, according to ESPN.com.

ESPN reported Wednesday night the announcement could be made as early as Thursday. Spanos had until Sunday to make a final decision, but has has already informed NFL commissioner Roger Goodell of his intent to relocate the team, the report said.

The Chargers played their inaugural season of 1960 in Los Angeles, but they moved to San Diego a year later and have been there the past 55 years.

The ESPN report said the Chargers will begin play in Los Angeles in the 2017 season.

Instead of sharing the Los Angeles Coliseum with the Rams and USC, the Chargers will play at the StubHub Center on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif., before joining the Rams at their new Inglewood stadium in 2019, Pro Football Talk reported late Wednesday

Spanos does not want to be in business with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, and certainly doesn't want to be Kroenke's tenant, but after failed meetings with San Diego's mayor and city council, he was out of options.

The final Chargers game at Qualcomm Stadium was a 37-27 loss to the Chiefs on Jan. 1 to close a 5-11 season.
