Carolina Panthers president Danny Morrison is going back to college.
The Panthers on Thursday announced Morrison's resignation from the post he had held since 2009.

Morrison joined the team as owner Jerry Richardson's second in command following a four-year stint as athletic director at TCU. He held the same position at FCS school Wofford, his alma mater, from 1985-97 before becoming the school's senior vice president.
Morrison's departure comes after a disappointing 2016 campaign in Charlotte. The Panthers won 14 in a row to start their 2015 campaign on their way to an NFC title before falling to the Broncos in Super Bowl 50. This past season, Carolina failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2012, going 6-10 and finishing last in the NFC South.

“I have enjoyed my time with the Panthers and want to thank Mr. Richardson and everyone involved with the organization,” Morrison said in a release sent out by the Panthers. “This is something I have been thinking about for a while and the timing is right with the start of the business year. We have made great progress in a number of areas, but there are other endeavors, particularly on the college level, that interest me as a final chapter in my career.”
