Ahead of his first season in the NFL, when all eyes will be on him as the No. 1 overall pick on an ascending team, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is looking to make progress every day and is striving for perfection.
But as we've seen, the road can be bumpy. Williams has had both good and bad showings in practice this offseason, which is to be expected for a rookie, especially when it comes to a rookie playing the most difficult position in sports.
When asked how he measures his progress on a daily basis, Williams says it's all about asking questions.
"First, I ask questions," Williams said, per ESPN's Courtney Cronin. "I ask questions to Coach. I ask about my progression, I ask where he wants me to be, where I should be, and then obviously I have my own goal set for myself and that’s to be perfect."
While he is clearly striving to be perfect, Williams is realistic in knowing that he will never be that all the time. All he can do is work as hard as he can to get as close to perfect on a regular basis as possible.
"Obviously you strive for something like that and you don’t ever reach it, but you keep striving for it. Whether it’s a day that I like or a day that I don’t, there’s always good and bad in it, so just finding my balance and reaching and striving for my goal."
Williams absolutely has the right mentality to succeed. Every player's goal should be perfection, but they also have to understand they won't be that 100 percent of the time.
