For anyone who thinks NFL players were tougher back in the day, we present Alex Cappa.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers right guard broke his arm in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Saints, but finished the game, playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps and a few on special teams, too.
“I have to commend Alex Cappa. He broke his arm in the second quarter and played the entire game,” coach Bruce Arians told reporters Monday. “He’ll miss a few weeks.”
Cappa appeared to suffer the injury when he landed awkwardly on a screen pass to running back Ronald Jones. He told reporters afterward it was “just a bruise.”
The second-year guard out of Humboldt State has started all five games this season and not missed a snap. To compound the Buccaneers' problems, right tackle Demar Dotson left Sunday's game with calf and hamstring injuries, and he's also expected to miss next Sunday's game in London against the Panthers.
“But it’s next man up," Arians said. "You can’t make excuses. We’ll have a new right side of our (offensive) line probably this week.”
Earl Watford is expected to start in Cappa's place, and Josh Wells is set to step in at right tackle.
