Before he's a pro, he'll have his pro day.
LIVE: Follow Bryce Young updates from Alabama's pro day
Alabama passer Bryce Young is a surefire lock for the top five in this year's NFL Draft — but where will he go? The Panthers trading up to No. 1 overall early in the offseason guarantees that they'll take a passer, but with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud jockeying to be the top overall player selected this year's draft, eyes shift to pro days for more evidence to select one or the other.
While pro days are helpful, they don't always tell the full story. Waves were made in 2021 when BYU quarterback Zach Wilson made a stellar throw across his body that won headlines — and maybe swayed some scouts' thoughts in the process.
Now, Young has an opportunity to showcase his unique talents in front of teams to solidify his standing as the top passer, with his pro day this week his best chance to do so.

What to watch from Bryce Young during his pro day
While throwing sessions in T-shirts and shorts aren't exactly indicative of anything, Young's pro day will mark the first time that scouts and front offices get an up-close-and-personal look at the Alabama passer in throwing sessions. Young chose not to throw at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, leading to teams taking the trip down to Tuscaloosa to evaluate him.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Young will throw to former Alabama receiver and free agent wideout Slade Bolden, among others.
Former Alabama WR/PR and current NFL free agent Slade Bolden will be running routes and catching footballs for QB Bryce Young at the Crimson Tide’s pro day Thursday.

Young was measured at the combine, taping up at 5-10 and 1/8, while weighing in at 204 pounds. It will be worth watching if Young is measured again at his pro day, with focus on his weight; NFL teams may feel that Young's height may not be as big an issue as his frame. Young's combine weight was up from the 194 pounds he played at during his time with Alabama.
Bryce Young 2023 NFL Draft projection
One thing is certain: Young won't have to wait long to hear his name called on April 27.
The Panthers traded up to the No. 1 overall spot in mid-March, surely solidifying their commitment to taking a passer at the top spot. Who that is, though, remains to be seen.
Ohio State's C.J. Stroud has impressed throughout the pre-draft process, with a solid showing at the combine confirming his 1A status in the draft. Stroud's full skillset may challenge Young for the top player called in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Recent reports, though, say that there's a favorite in the process. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Panthers moved up with the "idea" that Bryce Young was their guy at No. 1:
Bryce Young is believed to be the favorite for the Panthers at No. 1 as of right now 👀

"I think Bryce Young is to the Panthers, what Mac Jones was to the 49ers when they traded up." —@AdamSchefter pic.twitter.com/5Q9Ybso0NX
"I think that Bryce Young is the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick," Schefter reported. … "I think in this particular case that they (the Panthers) moved up with the idea that Bryce Young is a guy that they loved. They also really like C.J. Stroud, they've definitely got support in the organization, and we'll see what transpires in the organization."
It's a long way to April 27, though, and the road to Kansas City may take another detour come March 23.
