When the Broncos host the Raiders on Sunday for their Week 5 matchup, they will be wearing some special uniforms.

Denver's jerseys underwent an overhaul ahead of the 2024 season. But this weekend's fits go beyond fresh shoulder stripes or a new navy alternate uniform.

The Broncos dug deep into the archives for inspiration. The eye-catching design should attract attention for Bo Nix & Co as they debut their new alternate uniforms this week.

Broncos throwback uniforms, explained

Earlier this year, the Broncos unveiled their redesigned uniforms for the 2024 season, which included an expanded set of alternates. Among those alternates is this vintage uniforms set, which is inspired by the 1977 AFC Championship team.

The Broncos new alternate uniforms feature a vintage orange jersey, white pants, blue socks with orange and white stripes, and a baby blue helmet with an orange stripe and the old school Broncos "D" logo.

Have the Broncos worn orange throwback uniforms before?

This will be the first time that the Broncos wear these specific alternate uniforms in a game. While Denver have made their orange jerseys their primary home uniforms over the past 15 years, these specific orange jerseys have not been part of the rotation.

The purpose of these jersey's is to celebrate the Broncos' 1977 season, one of the most important in franchise history.

Broncos 1977 season

The 1977 Broncos were the first team in franchise history to make it to the Super Bowl. During that season, Denver went 12-2 in the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Broncos would go on to beat the Steelers and Raiders in the playoffs before losing to the Cowboys in Super Bowl XII.

Up until that season, the Broncos had yet to even make the playoffs, as they went 17 straight years missing the postseason in either the AFL or NFL. Quarterback Craig Morton led the way that season, throwing for 1,929 yards and 14 touchdowns as he finished second in NFL MVP voting.
