As John Elway did with Gary Kubiak, he has hired one of his former backups to the Broncos' coaching staff.
Former Denver quarterback Bill Musgrave, who was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Raiders, will be the new quarterbacks coach as new Broncos head coach Vance Joseph continues to compile his staff.
Running the Broncos offense will be former Chargers coach Mike McCoy. He'll be in his second stint as the Broncos offensive coordinator. McCoy was Denver's OC from 2009-12 under coaches Josh McDaniels and John Fox.
"Mike is a hell of a play caller," Joseph said Thursday. "I want a guy that fits the scheme to the players. I want coordinators that put players first and schemes second. If it doesn’t fit the players, let’s not do it. My thought there is 'players first, scheme second.'"

Musgrave spent the final two seasons of his six-year NFL career in Denver as Elway's backup quarterback during the 1995-96 seasons. He got his coaching start with the Raiders in 1997 as the quarterbacks coach and has had stints with the Eagles, Panthers, Jaguars, Redskins, Falcons and Vikings before joining the Raiders again in 2015 as the coordinator following a second stint in Philadelphia as the quarterbacks coach for the 2014 season.
Joseph is a defensive-minded coach who was most recently the defensive coordinator for the Dolphins. Adding Musgrave and McCoy to work with young quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch should pay dividends.
At least, that's the plan.
