Brock Purdy injury update: 49ers QB day-to-day with back soreness after negative MRI image

The 49ers are off to an unfortunate start to their 2024 season, beginning the year 1-2 following defeats to the Vikings and Rams in Weeks 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, a big part of the team's difficulty so far can be attributed to its injury struggles, which include tight end George Kittle, running back Christian McCaffrey, and receiver Deebo Samuel among others.

To the horror of Niners fans and fantasy owners everywhere, joining their ranks after a tough loss to Los Angeles on Sunday evening is Brock Purdy. Here's everything to know about his injury, including why the quarterback is day-to-day with back soreness after a negative MRI.

Just before Monday night's matchups began, Adam Schefter reported that Purdy is experiencing back soreness. His status as of now is day-to-day following a clean MRI. Though it doesn't appear to be a serious issue, Purdy is likely to face some limitations in practices this week ahead of the 49ers Sunday matchup against the Patriots.

Brock Purdy 2024 stats

Purdy has been solid so far through the 49ers' three games, sitting second in the league in passing yards. Despite throwing four touchdowns and accumulating over 840 yards in the air, his performances haven't earned the results the team has hoped for.

Here's a look at how the San Francisco quarterback has performed so far in 2024.

Backing up Purdy is former Bengals and Broncos quarterback Brandon Allen, who is 2-7 in his nine NFL starts. Behind him is Josh Dobbs, who played in five games last season for the injured Kirk Cousins in Minnesota after initially starting the year with Arizona. While Allen is first in line, Dobbs certainly has the leg up on his teammate in terms of experience.
