When the Commanders are on the clock with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, you might hear the name "Bob Myers" mentioned on the broadcast.
That name might ring a bell, but not for football.
Myers, 49, is the former Warriors general manager who helped build Golden State's dynasty run, which led to four NBA championships. He joined the team as an assistant GM in 2011 but was quickly promoted to the head job in 2012.
He served as the Warriors general manager for 12 seasons, stepping down one year after Golden State went on a surprise run to win the 2022 NBA Finals. Myers spent the 2023-24 season as an analyst for ESPN's NBA coverage, but new Commanders owner Josh Harris also desired his talents once he took over the team.

What is Bob Myers' role with Commanders?
As the architect and key decision-maker of one of the most recent major success stories in sports, Myers drew the attention of new Commanders owner Harris when it came time to find a new head coach and head of football operations.
The Commanders haven't won a playoff game since the 2005 NFL season and haven't won a Super Bowl since 1992. In hopes of building a more stable winning structure for his new franchise, Harris sought Myers' expertise to put the right people in place.
"Bob Myers is a winner," Harris said. "Who wouldn't want him on your team trying to help your franchise? He knows how to identify talent. He knows how to build winning franchises, winning cultures."
Myers was part of a committee that sat in on interviews before the Commanders landed on Dan Quinn as their next head coach and Adam Peters as their next head of football operations.
He explained his role for Washington's social team back in March.
"Meeting with Dan [Quinn], meeting with Adam [Peters] about free agency, meeting with Josh [Harris], spending time with him while he was there," Myers said.
"Just honestly being aware that there was a lot I didn’t know. Asking questions in areas that I might see commonality, I would offer, ‘This is the NBA’s version of how we approached free agency.’
"Sometimes, when you ask questions, it helps the leaders of the Commanders find answers themselves."
Myers also attended some of Washington's 15-minute prospect interviews, listening in at the 2024 NFL Draft Combine as the Commanders search for their next franchise quarterback.

“Sometimes we talked a little bit about these interviews, these 15-minute interviews or these short snapshots,” Myers said.
“Sometimes, you overreact to a good or bad interview, realizing that’s a mistake. That’s not smart. It’s making a determination on a big decision in 15 minutes is never smart. So just sharing ideas like that, sharing experiences, because the NFL and NBA combine have a lot of common threads to them, they have a lot of similarities.”

Myers' role with the Commanders is more of a guiding hand than an actual decision-maker. But it doesn't hurt to pick the brain of a former executive who contributed to that much winning in just over a decade.
