There were many theories as to why Tyrod Taylor wasn't going to start this weekend against the Jets, but a clear-cut explanation has finally been offered.

According to the Buffalo News, Taylor is headed to Philadelphia to determine whether or not he needs surgery on his groin. The report said Taylor had been dealing with the injury for "the better part of a month."

After the Bills fired Rex Ryan on Tuesday, it was announced EJ Manuel would start in place of Taylor, who had just thrown for 329 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime loss against the Dolphins last week.

Taylor was held out of practice Thursday, which was originally deemed a "veteran's day of rest," but the most recent reports point to a more significant issue.

Taylor threw for 3,023 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while also rushing for 580 yards and six more scores. Despite the solid numbers, the Bills have only won three games since starting the season 4-2, which even led to Taylor getting benched.

Many expected the Bills to "rest" Taylor this week anyway, so he wouldn't get hurt — his contract calls for a guaranteed $30.75 million if he can't pass a physical by the start of the new league year — but that strategy is already out the window.

According to the News, if Taylor does indeed need hernia surgery, he likely would be sidelined about a month, so the team should still be in the clear when it comes to the guarantee.
