PFF's Austin Gayle reports that according to the consensus big boards done by Arif Hasan, the Atlanta Falcons have the two "biggest reaches" in the 2024 NFL Draft.
With their first two picks, the Falcons shocked the world by taking Washington quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. with the eighth overall pick. According to Hasan, the quarterback was the 34th-best player in the draft. With the second pick, which they used their extra third-round pick to trade up for, they chose Clemson defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro, a developmental tweener with high athletic upside. Orhorhoro ranked 68th on the big boards.
So far, the Falcons are minus-59 as far as value goes on the big boards, which is not the end-all, be-all. These are all projections, but there is this feeling that the Falcons are not getting the most value out of these picks, especially as it pertains to the 2024 season.
