According to the Oklahoma Sooners social media team, the Atlanta Falcons have signed tight end Austin Stogner to become an undrafted free agent. Outside of Kyle Pitts, the tight end position isn't much of a weapon in the passing game. Charlie Woerner and John FitzPatrick are better utilized in-line as blockers with receiving upside.
Back in 2020, Stogner was on track to be one of the top tight ends in this class, however, after a horrible infection in his knee during the season where he almost lost his leg, he has not looked like the same type of player.
Taking a chance on Stogner coming back and being fully healthy means taking a chance that you acquire a big-bodied (6'6", 258 pounds) receiving threat that can work the middle of the field and bring some real versatility in-line, at H-back or split out wide.
Not a bad bet to make.
