The Rams have emphasized that this is not a contract extension for Stafford, just an adjustment.
Matthew Stafford sought a new contract ahead of the 2024 NFL season, desiring some guaranteed money for the 2025 and 2026 seasons-his last two years of his deal. This deal would offer some reassurance that the Rams won't move on from him after this season. His 2024 salary is fully guaranteed, but he has no guaranteed money left for the remainder of his contract.
No terms have been announced yet, but it appears likely that the Rams adjusted his salary to give him the guarantees he wanted, as well as some other policies to ensure Stafford remains happy.
This is a well-deserved pay day for Stafford, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
