It appears there could be a new development in the Peyton Manning injury saga.

After finally confirming earlier this month that he'd been dealing with a partial tear in his plantar fascia "for quite some time," Manning's father, Archie said in an interview with WDSU-TV in New Orleans that his son has been dealing with a foot injury since at least August.

"He's really had this foot problem that's been going on for five or six months," Archie Manning said.

Archie Manning also opened up about Peyton's retirement situation and how the two talked last season about when to walk away.

“We talked about it. We talked a lot about it, you know, knowing when it’s time and stepping down and so forth,” Archie said via thedenverchannel.com. “He felt good. He went back this year and he struggled again with injury.

"He's not going to think about retirement right now. He's trying to get well. He wants to get well. He's got a team there that's in a playoff run he wants to help. If he gets back on the field, he wants to be ready."

STEELE: The Broncos must face the Manning-less music

Manning, who hasn't played since Denver's Nov. 15 loss against the Chiefs, has struggled to get anything going this season. He has nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions this season while completing under 60 percent of his passes for the first time since his rookie season in 1998.

Brock Osweiler will start again in Manning's place Sunday against the Steelers as Manning, forced to sit out Friday after practicing twice earlier this week, continues to recover from his injury.
