The NFL playoffs always seem to have that one commercial fans can't get out of their head.
Two years ago, it was the "Scoop, there it is!" GEICO commercial. Last year, it was Burger King's unforgettable Whopper commercial. As Super Bowl 58 nears, it's becoming pretty clear which commercial defines this year's playoffs.
More than 50 million people watched the Chiefs' divisional round win over the Bills, and nearly all of them likely saw (and heard) a singing electrical outlet as part of Apple's new commercial promoting the iPhone 15 Plus.
Opinions on the ad are mixed, which is no surprise. It's fair to wonder whether the commercial lasts a bit longer than necessary. If Apple's ad was to get viewers' attention, though, consider that mission accomplished.
Here's what you need to know about the song behind the Apple outlet commercial.

Apple outlet commercial song
The song used in the commercial is "Way Too Long" by Doe Boy. It was released in 2023 by the Atlanta-based artist.
The portion of the song used in the commercial is the very beginning of the full song. This is what viewers hear during the ad:
At night, I remember when you and I were inseparable
We, we had pure energy
We had that chemistry, we were inseparable
Why we takin' so long? (Why?)
I've been geekin', I can't sleep, waitin' for you to come back home (Come home)
You the one, I'm in love, I feel like it been way too long (Way too long)
Way too long and I'm missin', I'm missin' you
Doe Boy likely didn't intend for the song to have anything to do with an outlet missing an iPhone when he first recorded it, but the sentiment works for what Apple wanted to express.

Who sings in the Apple outlet commercial?
Well, that's simple. An outlet sings.
Jokes aside, Doe Boy is the artist behind "Way Too Long." Named Isam Mostafa, Doe Boy was born and raised in Cleveland but started his career in Atlanta and has collaborated with rappers such as Future and Young Thug.
What is the Apple outlet commercial promoting?
So, what is the purpose of the commercial, anyway? The ad shows an electrical singing about how much it misses a man's iPhone while showing the owner of the phone laughing with the phone and ultimately taking it into the other room.
The end of the commercial clears up any doubt about what Apple is trying to say, as the screen reads, "Loooooong battery life" followed by "iPhone 15 Plus" before fading to black.
The iPhone 15 Plus has such long battery life, Apple claims, that it doesn't need to charged frequently and therefore doesn't spend as much time plugged into an outlet.
The ad promotes what's supposed to be a very helpful feature of the newest iPhone, but the tone of the commercial is undoubtedly more subdued than GEICO's "Scoop, there it is!" or Burger King's whopper commercial. That might make it at least a little more tolerable for fans of losing teams throughout the playoffs.
